WESTWOOD, Calif. - The No. 7 USC women's soccer team saw its hopes for a second straight Pacific-10 Conference title vanish, as the Women of Troy lost at No. 17 UCLA, 3-0, on Sunday morning.
USC ends the regular season 14-5 overall and 7-2 in the Pac-10. A win would have wrapped an outright title. Stanford's 4-0 victory over Washington State on Sunday lifted the Cardinal (7-1-1) into the championship.
UCLA improved to 14-4-1, 6-2-1, and beat USC for the fifth time in five tries in Westwood.
"We were totally outplayed by UCLA and our effort was poor," USC Coach Jim Millinder said. "We had a chance for a Pac-10 title and we let it get away. We can't play like this in the NCAA Tournament or we'll be done quickly."
Pairings for the NCAA Tournament will be announced at 7 p.m. tonight.
Bruin goals were scored in the 15th minute by Lauren Emblem, the 54th minute by Staci Duncan and the 77th minute by Breana Boling. After the third goal, USC junior midfielder Isabelle Harvey, the team's top scorer, was sent off with a red card.
UCLA held a 13-4 shot advantage. Though USC made several successful runs into Bruin territory, they rarely resulted in shots.
