LOS ANGELES - Middle infielders Jonathon Brewster of Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Michael Moon of Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High have signed letters-of-intent to play baseball at USC, head coach Mike Gillespie announced today.
"Our priority in recruiting this year was at the infield position, and in Brewster and Moon we got two outstanding players," said Gillespie, who will lose only two seniors off the 2000 squad. "We believe that they will be able to come in and play for us immediately, and that they will be standout players in the Pac-10."
Here are brief biographies on each player:
Jonathon Brewster, IF, 6-0, 170, Sherman Oaks, Calif./Notre Dame HS: Brewster earned All-League honors in both baseball and football as a junior at Notre Dame High. He played on the 818/805 team in the Area Code games and played in the Team One Baseball Showcase. An honor roll student at Notre Dame, he also plays basketball and was named the school's Most Athletic student-athlete.
Michael Moon, IF, 6-0, 175, Alta Loma, Calif/Rancho Cucamonga HS: Moon batted .533 with seven home runs as a junior at Rancho Cucamonga High, and made All-San Bernardino County and All-League honors. He played on the 714/909 Angels' team in the Area Code games, and has played in four AAU National Championships with the Cucamonga Dodgers (and made the All-Tournament team all four times). Moon is also a standout football and soccer player at Rancho Cucamonga.
The 1999 Trojans went 36-26 overall, finished second in the Pac-10 with a 17-7 mark and advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals. The 2000 USC squad begins its season at the end of January.
