CORVALLIS, Ore. - Junior midfielder Isabelle Harvey scored the 40th goal of her career, setting a new USC women's soccer career record, as the No. 8 Women of Troy blanked Oregon State, 3-0, at Lorenz Field in a Pacific-10 Conference match on Sunday afternoon.
USC improved to 14-4 overall and took over first place in the Pac-10 with a 7-1 mark, one-half game ahead of Stanford. The Women of Troy close the regular season next Sunday (Nov. 6) at UCLA. Oregon State fell to 8-9-1, 1-6.
"It was a hard-fought victory on the road," USC Coach Jim Millinder said. "We accomplished what we set out to do, which was to win two games in Oregon. We did well creating chances on offense and finishing a few of them."
The shutout was USC's ninth of the season, setting a new team single-season record.
The Women of Troy scored first in the 17th minute, as senior forward Kaylee Whitfield crossed a ball into the middle from the right side, and it was one-timed in by junior midfielder Andrea Warner. Warner scored her second goal of the season
USC made it 2-0 in the 26th minute, as Harvey ran down a ball in the left corner. The goalkeeper came out to challenge Harvey, who slid the ball into the middle and into the path of senior midfielder Kim Clark, who took the ball and scored easily. It was Clark's fourth goal of 1999.
Harvey's record-setting goal came in the 83rd minute as she converted a penalty kick. She broke the record of 39 held by Courtney Barham set from 1995-98. It was Harvey's team-high 11th goal of the season. She has also scored a point in 13 consecutive conference matches dating back to last season.
