LOS ANGELES - Freshman forward Jennifer Prigmore came off the bench to score two goals and lead the No. 6 USC women's soccer team to a 4-0 shutout of Montana in a non-conference match at the Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
The win lifted USC to 7-3 overall and ended a two-match losing streak. Montana dropped to 4-5.
"We put forth a great effort and we did things right," USC Coach Jim Millinder said. "This was the effort we needed to have against Fresno State (a 2-1 loss last Thursday). We controlled play and scored on some good opportunities. Our super-sub, Jennifer Prigmore, struck again."
Junior defensive midfielder Katie Ticehurst (Los Alamitos/Mater Dei HS) got USC on the board in the 13th minute when she took the ball away from an opponent and blasted a shot from 35 yards out that just made it under the crossbar.
Prigmore (Norman, OK/North HS) made it 2-0 as she scored just seconds after entering the match as a substitute. She knocked in a corner kick taken by junior midfielder Isabelle Harvey (Cap-Rouge, Quebec, Canada) in the 28th minute.
In the 34th minute, Prigmore made it 3-0. Off assists from freshman midfielder Kaley Pickett (Irvine/University HS) and freshman forward Jackie Fodor (Winnetka/Chatsworth HS), Prigmore gathered up the ball from about five yards out and kicked it in. Prigmore now leads USC with six goals in 1999.
The Women of Troy got their fourth goal in the 59th minute as freshman forward Ali Fennell (Santa Ana/Mater Dei HS) took a pass from senior midfielder Kim Clark (Cupertino/Monta Vista HS) up the right wing, then cut into the middle and took a nice shot that made it just inside the left post.
USC outshot Montana, 24-11, the first time in eight matches that the Women of Troy outshot their opponent. Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Arase (La Canada/La Canada HS) made four saves en route to earning her first career solo shutout.
USC begins Pacific-10 Conference play next weekend with home matches against Arizona (Oct. 8) and Arizona State (Oct. 10).
