Swimming Opens Season With Invitational

The 1999-2000 USC men's and women's swimming teams, both coming off sixth-place finishes at the 1998-99 NCAA Championships last spring, kick off their regular season with the USC Invitational this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 29-30) at the USC McDonald's Swim Stadium.
The invitational will feature a handful of local universities and club teams in addition to the Trojan swimmers. Among the schools competing are UC Irvine, Cal State Northridge, UC San Diego, University of San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Bakersfield. Club teams competing include Mission Viejo Nadadores, Swim Pasadena, Irvine Novaquatics and Sun Devil.
The meet is divided into three sessions. Friday's only session begins at 1 p.m. Saturday's sessions begin at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The USC men's team returns seven All-Americans and is led by sophomore Mark Warkentin, a four-time gold medalist at the 1999 World University Games. The women's team returns three All-Americans, including sophomore Kristin MacGregor, who was a three-time All-American last year as a freshman.
