Jerry Buss

Jerry Buss, who purchased the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings and the Great Western Forum in 1979, was a longtime supporter of USC and its athletic program. He earned his doctorate in physical chemistry from USC, where he then taught the subject. After a brief stint in the aerospace industry, he began a successful real estate development career. His Lakers teams won 10 world championships and his Los Angeles Sparks won 2 WNBA titles. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. He also helped launch Prime Ticket Network, which became FOX Sports West, the nation’s premier regional sports cable network. He was a familiar figure on the sidelines of many home USC football games. He died on Feb. 18, 2013, at age 80.
