After retiring from competitive diving following the 2000 Olympic season, McMahon returned to the sport in 2002 to pursue another Olympic run under current USC head diving coach Hongping Li. Reuniting with longtime synchronized diving partner and former USC NCAA champion Brian Earley, McMahon earned silver medals in 3-meter synchronized diving at the USA Diving National Championships in 2003 and 2004.
