Josh Goossen-Brown enters his first season with the Trojans as their Director of Player Development in 2026. Goossen-Brown comes from the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, where he was the pitching coach for Single-A Visalia Rawhide. Before his stop in Visalia, he was the pitching coach at Los Angeles Valley College.
As a player, Goossen-Brown began his collegiate career at Los Angeles Valley College, and was named the Division Player of the Year, a Southern California All-American, and was named to the All-Western State Conference first team, ABCA/Rawlings Pacific Association All-America second team, Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association All-Star and earned a Western State Conference Gold Glove.
Prior to the 2011 season, Goossen Brown transferred to Cal State Northridge, and in his first season, he finished with a .275 batting average, six doubles, one home run and nine RBI at the plate, and a 4-3 record with a 4.74 ERA, five saves and 43 strikeouts on the mound. After redshirting and serving as the bullpen coach in 2012, Goossen-Brown led the team both offensively and defensively as a junior in 2013. Goossen-Brown hit .279 and led the team with 60 hits and 47 runs batted in. He finished third in the Big West in RBIs and was the league leader in fielding after committing zero errors in 442 chances. He also had 10 doubles, a triple and two home runs. As a pitcher, Goossen-Brown currently sits in 4th place all-time for the Matadors in career saves (14) and single season saves (9).
As a senior he played at the University of San Diego, playing in 49 of the Toreros 54 games. He had a .314 batting average, and had 55 hits, 10 doubles, 2 triples and 4 homeruns. He added 27 RBI, had a slugging percentage of .471, and an on-base percentage of .395. On the mound as the Toreros closer, Goossen-Brown pitched to a 1.55 ERA in 18 appearances out of the bullpen. He had a record of 3-2 in 29.0 innings pitched, striking out 22. He tallied 6 saves for the Toreros.
After his impressive senior season, Gossen-Brown was drafted in the 31st round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. He played two seasons in the minors for the White Sox, playing for the Great Falls Voyagers and the AZL White Sox. In his two seasons in 2014 and 2016, he pitched to a career ERA of 4.61 in 27.1 innings. He struck out 33 batters and recorded four decisions.
Goossen-Brown played soccer, football and baseball for the Black Knights of Notre Dame High School. In the Mission League, he won the CIF championship in baseball in 2008 and captured the league title in 2009. In 2009, he was named First-Team All-CIF, earning league and team MVP awards after recording 10 wins. Along with being named to the All-Mission League first team, he was named to the All-State second team, LA Daily News first team and All-Tournament Team of the Anderson Bat National Classic.
