Shawn Howe, who returned to USC in March of 2019, is now in his second year as a defensive quality control analyst.Â
He previously spent 2 seasons at USC, first as a defensive administrative assistant in 2011 and then as a graduate assistant working with the defensive line in 2012.  In 2012, defensive end Morgan Breslin was a Hendricks Award finalist, while defensive tackle Leonard Williams was a Freshman All-American first teamer and the Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year as the Trojans played in the Sun Bowl.
Howe, 38, spent 2018 as the defensive line coach at Coastal Carolina. Defensive end Jeff Gunter made All-Sun Belt first team.
Before that, he was the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Dixie State for 3 seasons (2015-17). In 2016, defensive back Jaylen Moore was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.
He was the defensive line coach at Humboldt State for 2013 and 2014. Humboldt State led the nation in sacks in 2014.
Howe was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Tennessee in 2010. The Vols played in the Music City Bowl.
He spent the previous 3 years (2007-09) as a graduate assistant coach at Memphis. He worked with the defense the first 2 years and spent 2009 handling the tight ends. Memphis played in the 2007 New Orleans Bowl and 2008 St. Petersburg Bowl.
He came to Memphis after working as a volunteer assistant at North Carolina State in 2006, helping with the defensive line.
He began his coaching career at Rocky Mountain College, his alma mater, serving as the outside linebackers coach in 2004 and 2005.
Howe played defensive end and linebacker at College of the Redwoods in Eureka (Calif.) in 2000 and 2001, earning All-Mid-Empire Conference first team honors in 2000 when he was the team's Defensive Lineman of the Year. He then transferred to Rocky Mountain College, where he was a 2-year (2002-03) starter at defensive end.
He graduated from Rocky Mountain College in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health.Â
He prepped at Dallas (Ore.) High.
Born Dec. 13, 1981, he is single.
