Lenny Vandermade is in his 10th year on USC’s coaching support staff, currently as an offensive quality control analyst. He served as an offensive administrative assistant from 2009 to 2012 and 2014 to 2015 (he was promoted to tight ends coach midway through the 2015 season), then returned to USC as an offensive quality control analyst starting in 2018.
In 2013, he was an assistant at Loyola High in Los Angeles (Calif.). In 2016 and 2017, he was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Santa Margarita High in Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.).
Vandermade, 39, began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at San Diego State in 2007, then was the tight ends coach at the University of San Diego in 2008.
He was a 4-year (2000-03) starter on the offensive line (guard, center) at USC, including on the Trojans’ 2003 national championship team. In 2000, he was a Freshman All-American first teamer.
He was a prep All-American offensive tackle at Mater Dei High in Santa Ana (Calif.).
He spent 2004 on the practice squad with the Pittsburgh Steelers and was on the Steeler’s injured reserve in 2005. He played for the Steelers’ NFL Europe affiliate, Hamburg Sea Devils, in 2005.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in international relations from USC in 2003.
He was born Jan. 3, 1981. He and his wife, Tutai (she is the sister of former USC running back Malaefou MacKenzie), have 4 children: sons Isaia, 12, David, 4, and Lion, 2, and daughter, Stella, 7.
