Alex Rios is in his seventh season (2012-18) with the USC football program, including his third as the director of recruiting. Prior to his current position, he served as USC’s director of player personnel (2016), director of scouting (2015), recruiting analyst (2014) and student manager for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Since his full-time employment with USC, he has contributed to signing the No. 1 recruiting class in the country (2015) and 4 consecutive No. 1 recruiting classes in the Pac-12. In 2017, Rios was named to 247Sports “30Under30” along with fellow staffer Eric Ziskin, assistant AD/recruiting and player personnel.
Rios’ day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing the on-campus recruiting operation, conducting personalized communication campaigns, and interacting with high school coaches and recruits. He is involved in every aspect of the recruiting process, from planning official and unofficial visits to handling the game day experience for the recruits and coaches. The best way to contact him is via Twitter (@TheUSCMayor).
Born and raised in Newport Beach, Calif., Rios prepped at Newport Harbor High, where he was a three-sport athlete (football, basketball, baseball) and 7-time varsity letter recipient. He later went on to redshirt in baseball at Cuesta College. It was there where he found his love for recruiting and was instrumental in the collegiate and professional recruitment of current Cincinnati Reds pitcher Jon Moscot to Pepperdine. He then transferred to Santa Monica College, where he roomed with Grammy-nominated music producer Andrew Cedar.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in communication in 2013, with an emphasis in sports, media and management. As an undergraduate, he held internships at CONAN and American Idol. He is a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, where he was the social and rush chair.
