Youth Sports Camps Hosted by Six USC Head Coaches this Summer

LOS ANGELES -- Youth instructional camps in 6 sports--football, basketball, baseball, women's soccer, volleyball and swimming--will be conducted by USC head coaches during the summer of 1999.
Signups are being accepted now for the following camps:
FOOTBALL: The USC Football Camp, with instruction from Trojan head coach Paul Hackett (member of Super Bowl and collegiate national championship coaching staffs) and his assistants, will be held June 20-23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Howard Jones Field on the USC campus. The non-contact, all-position camp is for entering third through 12th graders. Overnight ($350 tuition) or day ($250 tuition) camper options are available. All participants receive a T-shirt, camp awards and meals. The camp will include on-field instruction on fundamentals and drills, film room chalk talks, and daily competitions. BASKETBALL: Henry Bibby's Summer Basketball Camp, led by the USC head men's coach (the only person to win an NCAA championship, NBA title and CBA crown) and his staff, will hold 2 sessions--June 26-30 and Aug. 2-6--from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in USC's Lyon Center. The day camp, priced at $225, is for boys and girls ages 7 to 17 (entering first through 12th graders). All campers will receive a T-shirt, camp awards and lunch. BASEBALL: The Trojan Baseball Camp, hosted by USC head coach Mike Gillespie (coach of the 1998 College World Series champs) and his staff, will hold 3 sessions--June 28-30 (ages 15-18), July 5-7 (ages 11-14) and July 12-14 (ages 6-10)--from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at USC's Dedeaux Field. The day camp costs $160. Campers will receive a T-shirt. The camp will include mini-clinics, demonstrations, group drills and team scrimmages. WOMEN'S SOCCER: The USC Girls' Soccer Camp, featuring Women of Troy head coach Jim Millinder (coach of the 1998 Pac-10 champs) and his staff, will be held Aug. 7-11 from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at USC's McAlister Field. Resident ($450) and day ($350) camper options are available. The camp is for girls ages 12 to 18. All participants receive a ball, T- shirt, prizes, meals and individual evaluation. The camp will include small group training sessions, guest player appearances and evening training matches in the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. VOLLEYBALL: The USC Summer Volleyball Camp, conducted by USC men's head coach Pat Powers (former All- American, Olympic gold medalist and pro beach star) and his staff, will be held July 12-15 form 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The first 3 days of the camp will be held indoors at USC's Lyon Center and North Gym and the last day will be held on the sand in Manhattan Beach. The day camp, which costs $250, is for boys and girls ages 12-15. All campers will receive a free Molten all-leather volleyball and a video breakdown of skills. The camp will feature fundamental instruction and drills, as well as scrimmages. For more information, contact the USC men's volleyball office at (213) 740-3838.
SWIMMING: The Swim with SChubert Swim Camp, led by USC head coach Mark Schubert (the 2000 U.S. Olympic men's coach and 1992 U.S. Olympics women's coach) and his staff, will hold 4 sessions--June 6-11, June 13-18, June 20-25 and June 27-July 2--from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at USC's McDonald's Swim Stadium, site of the 1984 Olympics. Resident ($495) and day ($390) camper options are available. The camp is for boys and girls ages 8 to 18. All participants receive a T-shirt and meals. The camp includes water and dryland training, conditioning, video analysis, and technique drills for strokes, starts and turns.
