USC baseball waited, waited and then waited some more this weekend before finally playing a late afternoon doubleheader on Sunday with No. 11 Cal Poly at Dedeaux Field. The Mustangs took game one, but the Trojans responded with a 16-0 demolition in the nightcap paced by SP Bob Wheatley who tossed seven scoreless innings including a career-high 10 strikeouts.

The three-game series had to be abbreviated to two thanks to Friday and Saturday's rain showers. The Top 25 win is a boost for the Trojans heading into another big week which includes a trip to play Mike Gillespie's UC Irvine Anteaters on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and a home stand versus Houston, Pepperdine and No. 13 UCLA (Sunday at 1 p.m.).
