Steve Lopes, USC's senior associate athletic director since 2002, has been named chief operating officer and chief financial officer of the Trojan athletic department.
"Steve Lopes has worked tirelessly for nearly three decades in the department and has provided great vision, leadership, and financial accountability," said Haden. "He is one of the best in the country, and I value his hard work and clear judgment."
Lopes began working in the USC athletic department in 1984 as an assistant strength coach, then became an administrative assistant in 1986, business manager in 1989, finance director in 1991, assistant athletic director in 1992 and associate athletic director in 1995. He also serves as program coordinator for the Sports Management Institute. He earned a pair of master's degrees from USC, in athletic administration and business administration, and a doctorate in education from Penn.
He was a 1983 College Division All-American offensive lineman at Linfield College and played on the school's 1982 national championship team. He also lettered in wrestling and golf there. He was inducted into Linfield's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
Haden also announced several other administrative staff promotions:Â Tim Tessalone to senior associate athletic director/media relations; Hatcher Parnell to associate athletic director/operations; Marilee Pischel to associate athletic director/director of human resources; Monica Morita to assistant athletic director/student services; John Mosbach to assistant athletic director/academic advising; and Gregory Millward to director of development.
"Tim Tessalone has served the department with distinction for 33 years," said Haden. "His leadership and reputation among local and national media members is outstanding and he is one of the leaders in his profession. He has worked tirelessly for our coaches and student-athletes to promote their accomplishments to our many constituencies."
