Legendary offensive line coach Hudson Houck announced his retirement from football this week after 29 years of NFL coaching plus seven decorated seasons at USC.
Houck was a member of the Trojans' 1962 national championship team and lettered at center in 1963, but he really built his reputation on the sidelines.Â
From 1976 to 1982, he coached USC offensive linemen to three Rose Bowls and the 1978 national championship. During that span, he was credited with cultivating NFL Hall of Fame talents Anthony Munoz and Bruce Matthews; plus college football hall of famers Marvin Powell and Brad Budde (the 1979 Lombardi Award winner); and All-Americans Pat Howell, Keith Van Horne, Roy Foster (pictured with Houck), Don Mosebar and Tony Slaton.
Houck moved on to the professional ranks in 1983 where he worked for the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and two terms with the Dallas Cowboys. He is believed to have coached more Pro Bowl offensive linemen than anyone else in NFL history.
"I've had a great time, been part of a lot of winning teams and I've enjoyed a lot of wonderful relationships," Houck told ESPN.
