The gesture proved to be more than ceremonial.
Coming off a home series win over then #6 Arizona State, the Trojans were huge underdogs in Corvallis against the Pac-10 leaders #2 Oregon State. On the strength of their surging rotation, USC battled the Beavers all weekend and took two out of three to win back-to-back series against top 10 foes.
The Trojans are now 12-12 in conference (tied for fifth) with a season-closing series due up against Washington St. at Dedeaux Field. Remember, they finished last in the Pac-10 last year at 7-20.
The Trojans are fired up to play for Frank Cruz.
