Carter, 60, lettered in football in 1970 and '71 and went on to play a season with the New England Patriots.After his football career, Carter served as an LAPD officer for nearly 30 years.
"Kent was the most gracious, warm and considerate individual I have ever met," Lt. Andrew Neiman of Emergency Operations Division told a myFOXla.com.
He loved his family, loved life and was looking forward to a wonderful retirement in a year," Neiman continued. "His passing will create a huge void in the department."
The funeral is Tuesday (12/21) at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs in Diamond Bar.Â
