When the Trojan Marching Band performs at Shanghai's Expo 2010 this Thursday and Friday, it will be a once-in-lifetime experience halfway across the globe for nearly all of its student musicians.
For one, though, it will be a homecoming.  Clarinet player Xingjian "Jimmy" Chen will be performing in his native city with his father and family in theaudience. They will be watching him play with the Trojan Marching Band for the first time.
Born and raised in Shanghai, Jimmy left China at age 11 with his mother to reside in Salt Lake City. He is currently a sophomore studyingaccounting and finance at USC's Marshall School of Business.
On Thursday, the TMB will lead a parade through the Expo. The next day, for the USA Day ceremonies, the band will play for the morning National Day Protocol Ceremony with the American and Chinese delegations and at another parade that afternoon.
