No. 2 USC Women’s Golf Maintains the Lead at the Big Ten Championship

Junior Bailey Shoemaker tied the Oakmont Country Club tournament course record with a 65 (-5).
GLENDALE, Calif. — Led by Bailey Shoemaker tying the Oakmont Country Club tournament course record, the No. 2 USC Women's Golf team maintained its lead after the second round of the Big Ten Championship, held in Glendale, Calif. on Saturday, April 25.
The Trojans battled cold winds throughout the overcast Saturday afternoon at the on the par-70, 6,134-yard track and were the only team under par with a 279 (-1). USC has an 11-stroke lead over the field with a 556 (-4) heading into tomorrow's final round.
Shoemaker shone for the Trojans by firing a 65 (-5) that not only tied her collegiate career best, but also tied the Oakmont Country Club tournament single-round record, which Illinois' senior Anna Ritter set yesterday. The junior had six birdies on the day, including four on the front side after recording her lone bogey of the day on the first hole. The junior moved into a tie for second at the turn before separating herself with the field with back-to-back birdies to finish the round. She has a one-stroke lead over Purdue's Luana Valero heading into the final round.
Sophomore Jasmine Koo fired a 70 (E) that rose her into a tie for second at a 139 total (-1). Koo opened the round with two birdies in the first four holes, but ran into trouble midway through the front side before recovering with birdies on Nos. 7 and 8. She found trouble on the back side with three bogeys before lowering her score to par with a birdie on No. 18. As it stands, Koo is the only other Trojan under par.
Sophomore Elise Lee started strong with two birdies on the front side before running into trouble with three bogeys on the back side to finish with a 71 (+1). She is in a three-way tie for sixth with a 140 (E) total.
Senior Catherine Park ran into trouble during her second-round 73 (+3) and is in a tie for 11th with a 142 (+2) total. She had two birdies, but three bogeys and a double-bogey to push her score over par.
Rounding out the Trojans, sophomore Kylie Chong is in a tie for 28th with a 146 (+6).
USC competes in the final round of the Big Ten Championship tomorrow at 9:40 a.m., when Kylie Chong tees off on No. 1. Fans are encouraged to attend the tournament at Oakmont Country Club, which is free to the public. The round will also be broadcasted on Big Ten Network, starting at 12:30 p.m. PT.
