LOS ANGELES - No. 10 USC women's tennis delivered a commanding 4-0 sweep of Purdue on Friday afternoon at Marks Stadium, extending its home dominance and moving one step closer to a Big Ten regular season title.
The Trojans (18-5, 11-1 Big Ten) opened the match by securing the doubles point, though not without fight. Emma Charney and Simone Kay set the tone with a dominant 6-0 win on court three, finishing first in the order. Purdue answered on court two, but USC sealed the point on court one as Krisha Mahendran and Dani Borruel knocked off the No. 61-ranked pair of Ece Gencer and Ida Clement, 6-3.
In singles, USC wasted no time taking control, winning all three completed matches in decisive fashion. No. 22 Jana Hossam was first off the court, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win on center court to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.
Moments later, No. 58 Emma Charney followed with an equally dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory on court three, putting USC within striking distance of the clinch.
Dani Borruel sealed the sweep on court five, finishing third in the order with a 6-1, 6-2 win to secure the 4-0 final. Several matches went unfinished, with USC holding leads on multiple courts.Â
With the win, USC remains perfect at home this season and extends its winning streak as it prepares to close out the regular season on Saturday against Indiana at noon PT. Prior to the start of the match, Trojan senior Emma Charney will be honored on court.Â
