ROSEMONT, Ill. — After winning his first collegiate tournament at the 79th Western Intercollegiate Presented by Titleist, USC Men's Golf sophomore Jack Buchanan was named the Big Ten Co-Golfer of the Week on Thursday, April 16.
This is the second Big Ten weekly award of Buchanan's career and the fourth by the Trojans this season. He joins teammates Jaden Dumdumaya, Antonio Safa and Luke Stock as Trojans who have earned a weekly award this year.
Buchanan helped USC sweep the team and individual titles at the 79th Western Intercollegiate, held at the historic Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif. After recording his second collegiate ace in the first round, Buchanan broke the single-round tournament record by firing a 62 (-8) at the par-70, 6,511-yard track, which brought him into the lead. He led throughout the final round and finished as the co-champion with Stanford's Dean Greyserman.
With the win, Buchanan was not only the fifth Trojan to win the Western Intercollegiate, but also helped the Trojans sweep the titles for the fourth time in tournament history. His efforts helped USC win its fourth title of the season, which is the most by the Trojans since they won four titles in 1997.
Buchanan and the Trojans begin their postseason push at the Big Ten Championships, held at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Ore. from May 1-3. All pertinent information can be found on the men's golf team's schedule page on usctrojans.com.
