LOS ANGELES – USC Track and Field's All-American honorees Garrett Kaalund and Madison Whyte landed on the Big Ten Outdoor Athletes to Watch List announced today by the conference. Kaalund and Whyte are set to appear in their outdoor season opener on Saturday, March 28.
Kaalund was one of two indoor national champions on the list next to Oregon's Peyton Bair. The new collegiate and American record holder in the indoor 200m returns for his final outdoor season. Last year, Kaalund achieved a personal-record time of 9.93 in the 100m at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Team Invitational. He finished in third place in the 200m at the NCAA Outdoor Championships and finished in second place with the 4x100 team, contributing 14 points total to the national championship title.
Whyte earned Big Ten recognition among eight indoor All-Americans following her national runner-up performance at NCAA Indoor Championships. In her sophomore season, she set a personal record time of 50.78 in the 400m against UCLA and had four first-place finishes in the 400m, including the Big Ten outdoor title. She competed on the 4x100 relay champion team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
