LOS ANGELES — Freshman Branko Djuric of the USC men's tennis team has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the period of March 4–11 after helping lead USC to a 2-0 start in conference play.
A psychology major from Budva, Montenegro, Djuric delivered key performances in both singles and doubles during USC's Big Ten opening weekend. The freshman went 2-0 in singles at the No. 1 position and added a crucial doubles victory to help secure two team wins.
Against Purdue, Djuric teamed with Max Exsted to clinch the doubles point for USC with a 6-3 win over Henrik Villanger and Nour Fathalla. He later returned in singles to earn a hard-fought victory over Fathalla, 7-6(4), 7-6(6), sealing USC's sixth and final point of the match.
Djuric followed that performance with another strong showing against Indiana. Playing once again in the top singles spot, he defeated Sam Landau 6-2, 7-5, helping USC complete the undefeated weekend.
A graduate of SMS Danilo Kis, Djuric's standout debut in conference competition marks his first career weekly honor from the Big Ten.
