Trojans sweep Bulldogs, dropping just one set the entire afternoon.
The Trojans set the tone early in doubles play. The No. 1 pair of Dani Borruel and Eugenia Zozaya opened with a commanding 6-0 win, and Simone Kay and Lily Fairclough followed with a 6-2 victory on court three to secure the doubles point. Play on court two was suspended with the doubles point being awarded to the Trojans.Â
Holding a 1-0 lead, USC wasted no time taking control in singles. Freshman No. 55 Eugenia Zozaya struck first with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win on court three, and Dani Borruel followed with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at the No. 5 position.
Simone Kay then clinched the team victory with a decisive 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, pushing USC ahead 4-0 and sealing the match.Â
With the result secured, the Trojans played out the remaining courts. No. 35 Emma Charney added a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, Lily Fairclough captured a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 4 and Immi Haddad closed the afternoon with a hard-fought 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory at the top spot.Â
