No. 19 USC Men's Tennis Comes Up Short Against No. 8 San Diego

Trojans fall 5-2 to Toreros.
LOS ANGELES - No. 19 USC men's tennis dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 8 San Diego on Sunday, Jan. 18 at Marks Tennis Stadium.

The Toreros secured the early advantage by claiming the doubles point. San Diego earned wins on courts two and three, while the top doubles match featuring Andrin Casanova and Jack McCarthy for USC against No. 71 Lambert Ruland and Adrien Berrut was left unfinished, giving USD a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
In singles, San Diego won three straight to solidify the team victory for the Toreros. The match was won on court six as Adrien Berrut (USD) defeated Trojan Andrin Casanova, 7-5, 6-4.
Notably, the battle on court four between USD's Stian Klaasen and USC freshman Max Exsted went the distance, with San Diego edging out USC in a tightly contested super tiebreak, 12-10. USC picked up just two points on Sunday as Niels Hoffmann delivered a clutch comeback on court five, rallying for a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) win over Neo Niedner and sophomore Nathan Trouve beat USD's Marysko 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(3).
With the loss, the Trojans drop to 2-1 overall. USC will regroup and return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 for ITA Kickoff Weekend in Berkeley, Calif. as the Trojans take on Central Florida at 11 a.m. PT.
