USC Beach Volleyball's Coakley-Pater Named AVCA/CBVB Pair of the Week
April 07, 2025 | Women's Beach Volleyball
The Trojans’ duo of Kennedy Coakley and Ashley Pater have won 16 straight matches and are 20-2 on the season
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The USC beach volleyball pair of freshman Kennedy Coakley (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner HS) and sophomore Ashley Pater (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS) were named the AVCA/CBVB Pair of the Week as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday, April 7.
Â
Coakley-Pater collect USC's record 12th AVCA national pair of the week award, a career first for each student-athlete. Last year, a record three different Trojan pairs were selected for the honor: Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple (March 17), Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse (April 28), and Maddi Kriz and Madison White (May 7).
Â
Coakley and Pater combined to go 4-0 at the weekend's Best in the West tournament in Laguna Beach, Calif. The Trojan duo extended their win streak to 16 matches—the 14th longest in program history—and became the first USC pair to reach the 20-win mark this spring (20-2). Individually, Coakley improved to 22-3 in her first season as a collegian and Pater crossed the 50-win mark in her career (52-8).
Â
The Trojan pair opened the weekend with a win over Stanford's Ruby Sorra and Taylor Wilson, 23-21, 17-21, 15-11; and then breezed through a 21-11, 21-7 win against Hawai'i's Sarah Burton and Caprice Lorenzo on the first day. The USC duo continued to roll to take a 21-14, 21-16 win over Washington's Katarina Pantovic and Lauren Wilcock to avenge a loss the Husky pair the last time the teams met. Coakley-Pater topped the weekend off with a 16-21, 21-13, 15-8 win against North Florida's Madison Espy and Mariana Felciano Sanchez.
Â
The seventh-ranked Women of Troy (20-6) took down No. 4 Stanford (4-1) and swept No. 16 North Florida, No. 17 Hawai'i, and No. 19 Washington to extend to a five-dual win streak. Four USC pairs went 4-0 in Laguna Beach, and one was 3-1 to give the Trojans a 19-1 record.
Â
The Trojans head to San Luis Obispo this week for the Center of Effort Challenge hosted by Cal Poly at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex. USC takes on Florida State and the host Mustangs in two duals on Friday (April 11) and then goes up against Stanford on Saturday (April 12). Following the three pool duals, the Trojans will play in one of four finals matches set for Saturday evening.
