No. 7 USC Beach Volleyball Sweeps No. 17 Hawai’i at Best in the West

The Trojans collected the program’s 160th 5-0 sweep all-time in a win over the Rainbow Wahine
LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. – The No. 7-ranked USC beach volleyball team (18-6) swept 17th-ranked Hawai'i (11-13) by a 5-0 count to wrap the Trojans' first day at the Best in the West event on Main Beach on Friday, April 4.
The Women of Troy won their seventh straight dual over the Rainbow Wahine to improve to 19-3 in the all-time series.
Like they did in the day's first dual, junior Delaney Karl and graduate Ella Larkin scored the first point from the No. 3 position with a 21-11, 21-16 win over Jesse Mann and Jasmine Wandeler to improve to 5-1 together.
The Trojans went in front, 2-0, on a win by freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Pater. The tandem defeated Sarah Burton and Caprice Lorenzo, 21-11, 21-7, at court two to win a 14th straight match and improved to 18-2 overall.
The clinching point was delivered by graduate Maya Gessner and junior Mabyn Thomas from the No. 4 position in a 21-15, 21-15 win over Sydney Amiatu and Kristen Serrano. USC added a fourth point when sophomores Madison Goellner and Kaileigh Truslow got a 21-11, 21-18 win against Sophie Buschmann and Sydney Miller at the No. 5 position.
In the only three-setter of the dual, sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White improved to 16-5 with a 21-18, 20-22, 15-5 win over Amirah Ali and Alana Embry at the top court.
Up next, the Trojans take on No. 19 Washington (11-10) at noon PT on Saturday (April 5) and then close out the weekend with a dual against No. 16 North Florida (17-2) at 3 p.m. Live scores are available at VolleyballLife.com.
