No. 17 USC Women's Tennis Powers Past Michigan State to Advance to Conference Quarterfinals

OJAI – The No. 6 seeded USC women's tennis team powered past Michigan State 4-1 during the first rebound of the Big Ten Championship Tournament at Libbey Park. With the win, USC advances to the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals, where the Trojans will take on the No. 4 seeded Washington Huskies tomorrow at 6 p.m. PT.
USC won the doubles point against the Spartans with wins on courts one and three and followed it up with a trio of singles victories. In doubles, USC won on center court as the No. 11 ranked pair of Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper downed MSU's Blackford/Vehnnilainen, 6-2. On court three, Emma Charney and Parker Fry combined to beat Morais/Brahmbhatt 6-2 and haul in the early point.
In singles play, USC would drop one match before rebounding to win three straight matches. Sophomore No. 98 Immi Haddad fell to Amara Brahmbhatt 6-3, 6-1 before No. 64 ranked Charney stepped up put the Trojans back in the lead. No. 45 ranked Grace Piper followed Charney's result with a decisive 6-2, 6-3 win on center court over Liisa Vehvilainen. Finally, senior Sloane Morra would deliver the clinch, beating Oriana Parkins Godwins (MSU) to send the Trojans through to the conference quarterfinals.
