April 16, 2025 | Women's Tennis
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Sophomore Lily Fairclough of the USC women's tennis team was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the week of April 9-16, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Trojans turned into two road sweeps over the weekend, powering past Nebraska (April 11) and Iowa (April 13). As an individual, Fairclough went 4-0 across singles and doubles matches, while also delivering the clincher against Iowa.
Fairclough and her partner Grace Piper are currently ranked No. 10 in the country in doubles and are 9-1 in Big Ten play (12-2 overall, 21-5 this year), riding a five-match winning streak.
On Friday against Nebraska, Fairclough was the first to finish her singles match, defeating Tiziana Rossinin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 on court four. In doubles, Fairclough and her partner Piper downed Nebraska's top duo of Zamburek/Loy 6-4 on center court to clinch the doubles point for USC.
On Sunday against Iowa, Fairclough and Piper once again delivered the clincher in doubles, hauling in the early point for the Trojans with a swift 6-2 win on center court over the No. 75 ranked pair of Dejnozkova/Vishwase. Fairclough would deliver the clincher in singles for the first time this season as she downed Barbora Pokorna 6-3, 6-3.
The conference honor is the first of Fairclough's career. Freshman Jana Hossam previously earned Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Week honors earlier this season.
