
No. 6 USC Beach Volleyball Wins Sixth Straight in 4-1 Victory Over No. 7 Florida State

The Trojans won their sixth consecutive dual in a 4-1 decision over the Seminoles to open the Center of Effort Challenge
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The sixth-ranked USC beach volleyball team (21-6) collected a 4-1 win over No. 7 Florida State (23-7) to open the Center of Effort Challenge at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex on Friday, April 11.

The Trojans won their sixth straight dual and improved to 22-6 all-time against the Seminoles. The win also avenges an earlier 3-2 loss to Florida State (March 28) while at the Death Volley Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.

USC's No. 1 pair of sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White won a fifth straight match to score the first dual point with a 21-14, 21-17 victory over Alexis Durish and Audrey Koenig. The Trojan duo moved to 19-5 with the win.

The Trojans went in front, 2-0, when junior Delaney Karl and graduate Ella Larkin collected a 21-19, 21-14 win over Bailey Higgins and Carra Sassack at the No. 3 position to improve to 8-1 together with a six-match win streak.

The clinching point was delivered by the Trojans' No. 4 pair of graduate Maya Gessner and junior Mabyn Thomas. The southpaw duo got a 23-21, 21-19 against Kyleene Filimaua and Kenzie Hultquist to move to 5-0 on the season.

Both remaining matches went three sets. At court two, freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Pater topped Gella Andrew and Maddie Trusty to extend their win streak to 17 matches on a 21-17, 18-21, 15-8 victory. Coakley-Pater improved to 21-2 overall and gave the Women of Troy a fourth dual point.

Florida State scored its only point in the dual from the No. 5 position where USC utilized its 30th different pairing this season. In their first match together, freshman Macy Bolyard and sophomore Madison Goellner played through 128 rallies but suffered a 22-24, 27-25, 16-14 loss to Myriah Massey and Makenna Wolfe.

The Women of Troy are back in action for the Center of Effort Challenge's first day nightcap: a 7 p.m. PT dual with host No. 3 Cal Poly (21-3). On Saturday, USC takes on fifth-ranked Stanford (20-7) at 10:15 a.m. to determine which final it will play in.
