No. 3 USC Beach Volleyball Knocks Off Washington and LBSU for 30th Straight Home Win

The Women of Troy collected 4-1 wins over the 16th-ranked Huskies and eighth-ranked Beach to move to 8-2 on the season
LOS ANGELES – The No. 3-ranked USC beach volleyball team (8-2) took down No. 16 Washington (3-4) and No. 8 Long Beach State (2-3) each by 4-1 counts in the Battle for Los Angeles at Merle Norman Stadium on Saturday, March 1.
The Trojans extended their win streak to seven duals and their record home win streak reached 30 duals dating back to 2021. USC is now 95-11 all-time at Merle Norman Stadium. The Women of Troy go to 11-0 all-time against the Huskies and to 18-5 against Long Beach State with a 17-match win streak over the Beach.
Sophomore Zoey Henson and junior Madison White won both their matches to improve to 6-2 on the season. The Trojan duo required three sets to dispatch of Washington's Teila Allen and Jade Sadeiko, 24-26, 21-19, 15-8; but got by Long Beach State's Taylor Hagenah and Malia Gementera in straight sets, 21-17, 21-17.
At the No. 2 position, freshman Kennedy Coakley and sophomore Ashley Pater split results on the day with a 21-19, 21-18 loss to the Huskies' Katarina Pantovic and Lauren Wilcock in the morning and a three-set win over LBSU's Haley Carrington and Julia Westby, 17-21, 21-15, 17-15. Coakley-Pater moved to 5-2 as a duo with the split.
USC's No. 3 pair of sophomore Madison Goellner and junior Mabyn Thomas also split matches. The Trojans got a win over Washington's Brooke Balue and Niki Egan, 21-19, 21-18, but fell to Long Beach State's Natalie Glenn and Savannah Standage, 21-16, 15-21, 15-12.
On four, junior Delaney Karl and sophomore Kaileigh Truslow teamed up for two wins to run their streak to eight straight victories and a 9-1 record on the season. The duo collected a 21-15, 21-16 win over Emma Hohenauer and Sarah Wilcock in the first dual and then took a 21-13, 21-15 win over Long Beach State's Brooke Birch and Mo Gibson in the second dual.
USC's fifth pair of freshman Calinda Kok and graduate Ella Larkin produced the clinching point in both duals and finished the weekend with a 4-0 record. Kok-Larkin came up with a three-set win over Hannah Doyle and Alina Urzua, 23-25, 21-18, 15-11, in the dual with Washington and then went 21-16, 21-14 against LBSU's Demi Wagdy and Megan Widener.
In exhibition action, sophomore Grace Hong teamed with sophomore Jess Horwath to take a 21-11, 22-20 win over Karolina Majernikova and Ella Wimmer. Hong then paired with freshman Calla Tufto and split sets with Long Beach State's Mahala Esser and Tineke Hinton.
The Trojans head to Stanford for the MPSF Midseason Rumble next week (March 7-8). USC takes on Grand Canyon (8 a.m. PT) and California (12 p.m.) on Friday (March 7) at Stanford's Beach Volleyball Stadium. The Women of Troy then face Oregon (10 a.m.) and the host Cardinal (2 p.m.) on Saturday (March 8) in an early-season rematch. Stanford defeated USC, 3-2, at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic on the season's opening weekend. All duals at the MPSF Midseason Rumble will be shown live on Big Ten Plus (B1G+).
