USC Women’s Golf Excels on Day Two of Therese Hession Regional Challenge
February 03, 2025 | Women's Golf
Freshman Jasmine Koo pushed her way towards the top of the leaderboard as she was six-under par in round two
PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – USC women's golf posted a tournament-best seven-under-par (277) second round, as it moved up the leaderboard into sole possession of first place out of 16 teams at nine-under par (559) on Monday, Feb. 3 at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
The Trojans were led by a strong effort from the top of the lineup. Freshman Jasmine Koo was right on schedule, as she continued her fall tradition of taking the first-place spot on the leaderboard, as she is seven-under par for the tournament. Senior Xin (Cindy) Kou and junior Catherine Park provided the added support, as both players are within the top ten entering the final day.
USC currently holds a five-stroke lead over the rest of the competition. They and No. 26 Florida are the only teams under par collectively. The Gators are four-under par and hold a seven-stroke lead over the third-place squad, No. 5 Texas.
Koo played her second round bogeyless and added six birdies to her total. The highlight of her round came at the end of the back nine, as she birdied three of the final four holes. The freshman was six-under par for the day and tied her best round of the season (65, Stanford Intercollegiate | Round Three).
Kou is tied for third on the leaderboard, as she carded a 70 (-1) to push her to four-under-par. The senior had her first two bogeys of the spring season, as she bogeyed No. 4 and 13, but counteracted that with three birdies.
Park was the Trojans' third finisher, as she tied for eighth in the field at one-under par. The junior played the day close to par throughout, with two bogeys and two birdies, for a 71 (E).
Freshman Kylie Chong was the final counting score as she tied Park on the day at even-par. The highlight of Chong's day came on the back end of the back nine, as she birdied three straight holes – holes 15-17 – on her way to securing a 33 (-3) on the backside. Chong is three-over par overall and is tied for 25th in the field.
Sophomore Bailey Shoemaker rounded out the team as she was one-over par on the day and is four-over par overall. Shoemaker is currently tied for 30th on the leaderboard.
USC returns to action starting at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
