USC Running Back King Miller Named Burlsworth Trophy Semifinalist
November 11, 2025 | Football
LOS ANGELES – USC running back King Miller has been named a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, today (Nov. 11).
The Burlsworth Trophy was created to honor the achievements and successes of the walk-on athlete. It is presented annually to the most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on.
Miller, America's best walk-on, continues to have an exceptional season. He has recorded 636 total rushing yards on 80 attempts (8.0 avg.) and 5 TDs. He has also tallied 8 receptions for 44 yards (5.5 avg.).
Among running backs with 80 attempts or more, Miller leads the Power Four in yards after contact per attempt with 5.25.
Since Week 7, Miller has tallied 484 rushing yards – the most among FBS freshmen in that time period.
In USC's last game against Northwestern on Friday, Nov. 7 in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Miller tallied 127 rushing yards on 15 attempts (8.5 avg.) and scored 1 TD. He also had 2 receptions for 3 yards (1.5 avg.).
He broke a 55-yard run in the second quarter after USC got the ball back from QB Jayden Maiava's forced fumble turned touchback. The counterpunch in momentum was Miller's second run over 50 yards this season, in addition to his 75-yard run against Missouri State (Aug. 30). It was also his fifth run of 40+ yards this season.
USC's 38-17 victory over the Northwestern marked Miller's third 100+ yard rushing total in the last four games.
USC is the only team in the nation averaging 300+ passing yards per game and 200+ rushing yards per game. USC has not produced these numbers since 2005. In fact, no FBS team has produced these numbers since LSU in 2023, and no Big Ten team has since Indiana in 2013.
This is the first time since 2016 and just the third time in the last 25 seasons that USC is averaging 200+ rushing yards per game.
The selection committee will announce the top three Burlsworth Trophy finalists on November 18. The Burlsworth Trophy Award Show will honor the three finalists and announce the 2025 winner on Dec. 8, at 7:00 p.m. CST at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Ark.
