USC Men’s Golf Slides Back into Seventh After Day Two
January 28, 2025 | Men's Golf
Junior Antonio Safa continues to lead the Trojans as he remains in the top 25 after two rounds at the Southwestern Invitational
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.: USC men's golf fell back four spots during the second round, as the Trojans were 11-over-par, 295, putting them 10-over-par for the tournament (578). This places them seventh out of 14 teams at the Southwestern Invitational after day two on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Sherwood Country Club.
USC counted 71-74-75-75 (295, +11) during their second-day afternoon session. UNLV leads the tournament at -4 (564).
Senior Gavin Aurilia rebounded from his 75 (+4) during the first day, as he moved up eight spots into the 34th spot by carding a 71 (E) in the second round. Aurilia had one blemish in the early goings with a bogey on hole No. 2 but quickly overcame it with two straight birdies – holes 7 and 8 - on the front nine. The senior ended that run with a bogey on the ninth hole and went even-par the rest of the way.
Freshman Jaden Dumdumaya continued to be a significant part of the lineup, as he had the second-best day for USC with a three-over-par round, making him a three-over-par total after his 71 (E) during the first day. Dumdumaya birdied one hole on the day – No. 8 – and had a bogey during the front nine but went two-over par on the backside. The freshman is tied for 29th after two rounds.
Junior Antonio Safa ranks within the top-25, as he is tied for 20th at two-over par. Safa recorded a 75 (+4) during the second day, as he bogeyed eight holes, but minimized the damage with two birdies and his third eagle of the season, as he posted a two on the par four, No. 16. Sophomore Jack Jerge joined Safa with a 75 (+4) as they tied for the last counting score of the day. Jerge is tied with Dumdumaya as they are both three-over par after two rounds.
Freshman Jack Buchanan is now nine-over par for the tournament as he posted a 78 (+7). Buchanan is tied for 56th in the field.
USC will play in the final at the Southwestern Invitational starting at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow at the Sherwood Country Club.
