Brackins Jr. Named Big Ten Co-Track Athlete of the Week

USC's Johnny Brackins Jr, who set the school 60m hurdles record last week, was named the Big Ten Co-Indoor Track Athlete of the Week today (Jan. 22). Brackins Jr. became the first Trojan track and field athlete to earn a Big Ten weekly honor.

The senior Brackins Jr. won the men's 60m hurdles with a personal-best, NCAA-leading and school-record time of 7.49 at the Spokane Sports Showcase on Jan. 17. He broke the previous USC record of 7.53 set by Tade Ojora in 2023. Brackins Jr. actually tied the school record with a time of 7.53 in the prelims, then broke it in the finals.

Brackins Jr. now is tied for the sixth-fastest collegiate 60m hurdler in history, trailing only Grant Holloway (7.35), Trey Cunningham (7.38), Daniel Roberts (7.41), Omar McLeod (7.45) and Reggie Torian (7.47). His 7.49 time was the fastest 60m hurdles time by a college athlete since Cunningham clocked 7.38 on March 12, 2022.

The native of Kansas City, Mo. Brackins Jr. was the NCAA runner-up in the 60m hurdles at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 7.57. He was named to The Bowerman preseason watch list on Jan. 9.

Brackins Jr. and his teammates will next be in action at the Red Raider Invite in Lubbock, Texas on Jan. 24.
