USC's underclassmen shine as Trojans beat Longhorns.
LOS ANGELES – No. 17 USC women's tennis kicked off the 2025 season with a massive win on Friday afternoon, downing the No. 7 Texas Longhorns 4-3 at Marks Stadium.
The Women of Troy exploded out of the gate as junior Emma Charney and senior Parker Fry took the first point of the day with a 6-2 victory on doubles court three. Senior Sloane Morra and freshman Jana Hossam followed suit, clinching the doubles point with a 6-4 victory on court two and giving the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
Hossam continued to stand-out in her first dual as a Trojan. The freshman phenom won the Trojans first singles point with a dominant 6-4, 7-5 victory over No. 44 Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo to put the Trojans up 2-0.
Texas fought back and secured a point with a two-set victory on court six, but it wasn't enough to stop the Trojans. Sophomore Lily Fairclough put USC within reach after powering to a three-set victory on court three, taking down No. 65 Ashton Bowers. The match was won on court four as sophomore No. 57 Immi Haddad clinched the win with an emphatic, straight-set victory over No. 28 Carmen Andreea Herea.
The remaining matches were played out, with Texas picking up two additional points in three-set wins on courts one and two.
With a top-10 win under their belt to start the season, the Women of Troy now look to carry this momentum into their first season in the Big Ten Conference. The Trojans return to action tomorrow, Jan. 18, to take on UC Irvine at Marks Stadium.
