Benjamin And De Grasse Advance To Event Semifinals At Paris Olympics

Rai Benjamin in the men's 400m hurdles and Andre De Grasse in the men's 200m advanced to event semifinals during the fourth day of track and field at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at Stade de France in Paris, France today (Aug. 5).

Rai Benjamin (USC, 2019) of USA won his men's 400m hurdles first-round heat with an easy time of 48.82 to automatically advance to the semifinals on Aug. 7 at 10:35 a.m. His time was 16^th among the qualifiers.
Andre De Grasse (USC, 2015) of Canada placed second with a time of 20.30 (+0.1) in his men's 200m first-round heat to automatically advance to the semifinals on Aug. 7 at 11:02 a.m. Aaron Brown (USC, 2014) of Canada placed fourth in his heat with a time of 20.36 (+0.2). The top three in each heat automatically advanced to the semifinals, so he will compete in the men's 200m repechage on Aug. 6 at 3:30 a.m. with a second chance to reach the semifinals. De Grasse was 14^th and Brown 18^th on time in the 200m first round.
Kendall Ellis (USC, 2018) of USA placed fifth in her women's 400m first-round heat with a time of 51.16. The top three in each heat advanced to the semifinals on Aug. 7. Ellis moves on to the women's 400m repechage on Aug. 6 at 2:20 a.m. with a second chance to advance to the semifinals.
Gianna Woodruff (USC grad student, 2024) of Panama placed third in her women's repechage 400m hurdles heat with a time of 55.10. The top two in each heat advanced and Woodruff was 0.005 seconds out of second place. She finished seventh overall on time in the repechage.
Lanae-Tava Thomas (USC, 2019-21) running for Jamaica had a time of 22.77 (+0.1) to place fifth in her women's 200m semifinals heat. She finished 18^th overall in the women's 200m.
