Six Trojans Advance To Event Semifinals At Paris Olympics

Anna Cockrell, Jasmine Jones and Amalie Iuel in the women's 400m hurdles, Michael Norman in the men's 400m, Tade Ojora in the men's 110m hurdles and Lanae-Tava Thomas in the women's 200m all advanced to event semifinals during the third day of track and field at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at Stade de France in Paris, France today (Aug. 4).

USA's Jasmine Jones (USC, 2024) and Anna Cockrell (USC, 2021) both won their women's 400m hurdles first-round heats to automatically advance to the semifinals on Aug. 6 at 11:07 a.m. Jones had a time of 53.60 which was second among the qualifiers and Cockrell a time of 53.91 which was fourth among the runners advancing. Also automatically advancing to the semifinals was Norway's Amalie Iuel (USC, 2017), who placed third in her first-round heat with a season-best time of 54.82. Her time was 14^th among the qualifiers. Panama's Gianna Woodruff (USC grad student, 2024) was fifth in her first-round heat with a time of 54.94 and 17^th overall. She will run in the women's 400m hurdles repechage on Aug. 5 at 1:50 a.m. with a second chance to advance to the semifinals. She had the fastest time of the runners competing in the repechage.
Tade Ojora (USC, 2023), running for Great Britain, placed fourth in his men's 110m hurdles first-round heat with a season-best time of 13.35 (+0.3). He had the top nonautomatic qualifying time and advanced to the semifinals eighth on time. The 110m hurdles semifinals are on Aug. 7 at 10:05 a.m.
Michael Norman (USC, 2019) won his men's 400m first-round heat with a season-best time of 44.10. He advances to the semifinals with the fastest qualifying time. The semifinals will be on Aug. 6 at 10:35 a.m.
Lanae-Tava Thomas (USC, 2019-21) running for Jamaica placed second in her 200m first-round heat with a time of 22.70 (+0.2) to automatically advance to the semifinals on Aug. 5 at 11:45 a.m. She was 10^th on time among the qualifiers.
Andre De Grasse (USC, 2015) of Canada ran a season-best time of 9.98 (+0.5) to place fifth in his men's 100m dash semifinal heat. His time ended up 12^th overall. De Grasse will be back in action tomorrow in the men's 200m first round.
