2024 Paralympic Games In Paris Feature Two Trojans
August 28, 2024 | USC Athletics, Track & Field, Olympics
USC freshman Ezra Frech and Canadian Paralympic veteran Cindy Ouellet start competition in Paris.
USC will have two Trojans in action at the 2024 Paralympic Games, which begin today (August 28) in Paris, France. USC's most veteran Paralympian, Cindy Ouellet of Canada, is competing in her fifth Games in wheelchair basketball. Now a two-time Paralympian, USC true freshman Ezra Frech, who competes for Team USA in track and field, also is no stranger to the international stage.
As he sets up for his freshman season at USC, Frech becomes the fifth Trojan on record to compete in a Paralympic Games. Ouellet — who earned a doctorate at USC in 2017 — made her Paralympic debut in 2008. Both Trojans are Swim with Mike Foundation scholarship recipients. USC's three other Paralympians have been Ian Silverman (London 2012 — USA Swimming), Robert Tanaka (Tokyo 2020 — USA Judo) and Dallas Wise (Tokyo 2020 — USA Track & Field). Frech will join Wise and Silverman as Trojan Paralympians who have also competed as USC student-athletes.Â
The current world record holder in the high jump, Ezra Frech will be looking to improve on his 2020 Paralympic Games performance at age 16. He placed fifth in the high jump T63 and eighth in the long jump T63 in Tokyo, and will compete in those events along with the 100-meter dash T63 while in Paris. Frech is the reigning world champion in the high jump T63 after his world record-setting mark at the 2023 Para Athletics World Championships — also held in Paris. He'd break that record again this past summer at the U.S. Trials. After these 2024 Paralympic Games, Frech will be back on campus at USC for his freshman season with his fellow Trojans on the track & field team. In Paris, Frech's first competition comes up on August 31 with the long jump. He's due to compete in the 100m on September 1 and in the high jump on September 3.

The veteran, Cindy Ouellet will be looking to help lead Canada's women's wheelchair basketball team to a medal after fifth-place finishes in 2020, 2016 and 2012. She is a three-time Wheelchair Basketball Canada Female Athlete of the Year, and she boasts gold medals won at the 2014 World Championships and 2019 Parapan American Games along with silvers at the 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2023 Parapan American Games. Ouellet and Team Canada kick off their Paris Games on August 29 with a Group Play game against China. The @Paris2024 Paralympics are underway!
