USC Men’s Golf Announces 2024-25 Schedule
August 20, 2024 | Men's Golf
The Trojans will play in nine regular season tournaments before competing in their inaugural Big Ten Conference Championship appearance Apr. 25-27
LOS ANGELES – Second-year head coach Mark Hankins announced Wednesday, Aug. 14, USC's men's golf schedule. The Trojans are set for nine regular season contests – including four new tournaments – before debuting at the Big Ten Championship.
Under Hankins, the Trojans will have a new look this year, as USC returns only four players and brings in a cast of three freshmen and one sophomore to the mix. Headlining the group is junior Antonio Safa and senior Gavin Aurilia; both players made a recent appearance at the 124th U.S. Amateur in Chaska, Minn. During the 2023-24 season, Safa posted the best stroke average for the squad, averaging 71.30, while Aurilia shot a 72.90 in 31 rounds of golf. Those two, alongside senior Jackson Rivera, will be a focal point as USC undergoes its latest installment in program history.
The Trojans begin the year by hosting their first tournament in the desert at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course in Maricopa, Ariz (Sept. 9-10). That tournament welcomes nine teams throughout the country in the inaugural Southern Dunes Invitational.
Following their kickoff to the fall season, USC will stay near the desert as they compete in the Tucker Invitational at the Championship Course at the University of New Mexico (Sept. 20-21). Next, USC ventures to another new tournament with the SMU Trinity Forest Invitational at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas (Oct. 6-8). In the last stretch of the fall season, USC will compete once again in the Golf Club of Georgia Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Georgia in Alpharetta, Ga. (Oct. 18-20). The Trojans had one of their best placements last season, finishing 7th out of 15 top national teams at four-under-par.
The spring season features five tournaments starting close to home, with the Southwestern Invitational at the Sherwood C.C. in Lake Sherwood, Calif. (Jan. 27-29). USC has made this tournament an annual event and posted one of their best starts last season, jumping out to second place after day 1. Following that, the Trojans will continue to stay local with two tournaments close to home with the U. of Arizona N.I.T. at the Omni Tucson National Resort in Tucson, Ariz. (Feb. 3-4) and the Southern Highlands Collegiate at the Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas (Mar. 2-4). USC wraps up the regular season after a short break with The Cowboy Classic at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes G.C. in Maricopa (Mar. 31-Apr. 1) and The ASU Thunderbird Classic at Papago G.C. in Scottsdale, Ariz. (Apr. 10-11).
After completing the regular season, USC will compete in its inaugural Big Ten Conference Championship, which will be held from Apr. 25-27 in Baltimore, MD at the Baltimore C.C.
Following the Big Ten Championship is the NCAA Regionals, which will be held May 12-14. The regional locations for 2025 include Poplar Grove G.C. (Amherst, Va.), Gold Mountain G.C. (Bremerton, Wash.), The Blessings G.C. (Fayetteville, Ark.), Montreux Golf and C.C. (Reno, Nev.), Karsten Creek G.C. (Stillwater, Okla.) and Seminole Legacy G.C. (Tallahassee, Fla.). Regional qualification leads to the NCAA Championship Finals, scheduled for May 23-28 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa (Carlsbad, Calif.).
