Trojan Grace Piper Advances To NCAA Singles Championship Tournament Round of 32

STILLWATER, Okla. – Trojan Grace Piper's first round singles victory highlighted USC's efforts during the first day of competition at the 2024 NCAA Singles Championship Tournament on Monday, May 20.

No. 60 ranked Piper, in her NCAA debut, downed Pennsylvania's No. 123 ranked Esha Velaga 6-2, 6-1 The Trojan fell behind early in her first set, going down 0-2 before later winning six straight points to claim the first set.

Tomorrow, Piper will play No. 8 seed Alexa Noel of Miami at 7:30 a.m. PST at the Greenwood Tennis Center. Noel, who is ranked No. 10 in the ITA's latest rankings, entered the tournament with an overall individual record of 22-8.

Also making her NCAA debut in the singles round of 64 was sophomore No. 33 Emma Charney, who fell 6-3, 7-5 to Oklahoma State's No. 3 ranked Ange Oby Kajura.

Charney and her partner Eryn Cayetano earned placement into the NCAA Doubles Championship Tournament and will make their debut tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. PST/6:30 p.m. CDT in the Round of 32. Live scoring can be found here.
