Four Trojans Earn 2024 Pac-12 Yearly Honors

USC's Johnnie Blockburger and Jasmine Jones were named 2024 Pac-12 Track Athletes of the Year and Racquil Broderick and Madison Whyte were named 2024 Pac-12 Track and Field Freshmen of the Year it was announced by the Conference today (May 17).

Blockburger won the Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Year award as he won the 200m and 400m dash titles at the 2024 Pac-12 Championships on May 12, while also anchoring the winning USC 4x100m relay team. Blockburger scored 22.5 points at the Pac-12 Championships from May 10-12 to earn Outstanding Male Athlete of the Meet honors. Blockburger won the 200m title with a wind-aided time of 20.19 and won the 400m title with a personal-best time of 44.51, which ranks tied for third on USC's all-time list and second in the country. Blockburger is the third USC man to earn the honor in the last six seasons (2018 - Michael Norman and 2021 - Isaiah Jewett).

Jones was named the Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Year as she won both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles at the Pac-12 Championships on May 12. Jones won the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.86 (-2.4), then won the 400m hurdles with a meet-record time of 53.87. Her 400m hurdles time moved Jones into second on USC's all-time list and is the NCAA-leading time. Jones also ranks 10th in the 100m hurdles this season. Jones became the fourth Trojan woman in the last six seasons to earn Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Year (2018 - Kendall Ellis, 2019 - Angie Annelus and 2021 - TeeTee Terry).

Broderick was named the Pac-12 Men's T&F Freshman of the Year as he won the Pac-12 men's discus throw title with a mark of 192-5 (58.65m) at the Pac-12 Championships on May 12. He has a best discus throw this season of 204-6 (62.34m) which is the USC freshman record and ranks fifth nationally, tops among freshman. Broderick becomes the second consecutive Trojan to earn Pac-12 Men's Freshman Athlete of the Year honors, as sprinter William Jones won the award last season.

Whyte was named the Pac-12 Women's T&F Freshman of the Year as she placed third in the 200m and third in the 400m at the conference championships, as well as running on the Pac-12 champion 4x100m relay. Whyte ranks third in the 200m (22.69) and third in the 400m (51.74) among Pac-12 athletes this year and second in the 200m and fourth in the 400m among all NCAA freshman runners in the country. Whyte becomes the fourth Trojan woman to earn Pac-12 Freshman Athlete of the Year in the last seven seasons (2017 - Anna Cockrell, 2018 - TeeTee Terry, 2019 - Lanae-Tava Thomas).
