May 01, 2024 | Women's Beach Volleyball
Trojan seniors Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple were chosen as the Pac-12 Pair of the Year for the second year in a row
SAN FRANCISCO – USC beach volleyball seniors Megan Kraft (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) and Delaynie Maple (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) were named the Pac-12 Pair of the Year, the Conference announced on Wednesday, May 1.
Kraft – now a four-time AVCA All-American was also chosen as the Pac-12's Player of the Year for the second time. Maple was also named to the AVCA's All-America first team and became the ninth USC player to earn multiple All-America certificates. Both Kraft and Maple are members of the Pac-12 All-Conference first team.
Graduate sisters Audrey Nourse (Newport, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS) and Nicole Nourse (Newport, Calif./Orange Lutheran HS) were named to the all-conference second team for the first time. Graduate Maddi Kriz (Austin, Texas/Round Rock Westwood HS) was chosen to the second team and earns her third-career All-Pac-12 award. Sophomore Madison White (Scottsdale, Ariz./ASU Preparatory Academy) was also named to the all-conference second team for her second consecutive year. Freshman Ashley Pater (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS) was selected to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.
Kraft-Maple's selection as the Pair of the Year gives USC each of the last five and seven of eight all-time awards. The same holds for Kraft's choice as Player of the Year, previously won twice by Kelly Claes (2016, '17), and three times by Tina Graudina (2019, '21, '22). Kraft has now won been part of the Pac-12's Pair of the Year four consecutive years (2021-22 with Graudina; 2023-24 with Maple).
Kraft's selection makes her a four-time Pac-12 All-Conference first-teamer (2021, '22, '23). Maple is a three-time all-conference choice and makes her second appearance on the first team after earning second-team laurels in 2022.
Kriz was chosen to the All-Pac-12 first team in 2023 as a senior at Stanford and to the second team as a junior in 2022. Kriz and the Nourses push the number of Women of Troy named to the Pac-12 all-conference teams to 20 and gives USC 42 all-time awards (26 first team, 16 second team).
Pater becomes the 10th USC freshmen to be named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. White and Gabby Walker (Flower Mound, Texas/Flow Mound HS) were all-freshman team members in 2023, and Maple and Kraft were all-freshman team members in 2021.
As the Trojans' No. 1 duo Kraft and Maple are 33-4 overall and enter the NCAA Championship tournament having won eight of their last 10 matches. The duo held a 20 match with streak this season. The Nourses are 29-7 on the season — 16-4 at the No. 2 position and 13-3 at No. 3. Kriz has also eclipsed the 20-win mark and arrives in Gulf Shores with a 27-7 record this season. White is just two shy of 30 wins with season, coming in at 28-6. In her first year, Pater is 27-4 at various positions in the lineup (primarily at the No. 4 position).
Six-time national champion USC (33-5) won the final Pac-12 title and earned the league's automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Championship and begins defense of its back-to-back-to-back titles as the No. 1-seed in a round of 16 meeting with the winner of North Florida (24-11) vs. Chattanooga (19-9). The Women of Troy make their eighth appearance in the championship and meet their opponent on Friday (May 3) at 9 a.m. PT (11 a.m. CT) at Gulf Beach Place in Gulf Shores, Ala.
