Nelson And Lopez Shine In USC’s First Day At The Mt. SAC Relays

Lopez sets Trojan women’s freshman 10K record
Leif Nelson took second in the Elite men's javelin throw, first among collegians, and Marjourie Lopez placed third in the Elite women's 10,000m race with a USC freshman record to highlight the Trojans' action during the first day of the Mt. SAC Relays held at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif. today (April 18).
- Leif Nelson took second in the Elite men's javelin throw competition with a mark of 232-9 (70.94m) which came in his final attempt. Nelson has thrown over 230-feet in consecutive meets, the first Trojan to surpass 230 feet in the javelin throw since 2010. His throw was the top mark by a collegian in the event.
- Marjourie Lopez set the USC freshman record and finished third in the Elite women's 10,000m race with a time of 36.32.25. That time also ranks fifth on USC's all-time 10,000m list. It was Lopez' first career 10K race.
- The day began for the Trojans with Kamryn Elgersma placing fifth in the women's College/Open javelin throw with a best mark of 145-3 (44.28m). Four of her six throws went over 140-feet.
- Sara Zabarino placed sixth in the Elite women's javelin throw competition with a season-best mark of 171-3 (52.20m). It was her best mark since placing fifth at the 2022 NCAA Championships with a throw of 182-5.
