No. 2 USC Beach Volleyball Sweeps No. 7 Long Beach State at CoEC

The Trojans won their sixth straight dual on a sweep of The Beach
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The No. 2-ranked USC beach volleyball team (26-3) completed a 5-0 sweep of No. 7 Long Beach State (21-7) at the Center of Effort Challenge at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex on Friday, April 12.

The Women of Troy pushed their win streak straight to six consecutive duals and improved to 17-5 all-time against The Beach. The Trojans have won 16 in a row over LBSU and collected their seventh 5-0 sweep of The Beach. USC also improved to 13-1 in San Luis Obispo and collected its 153rd 5-0 sweep all-time, the Trojans' 15th of the season.

Graduate Maddi Kriz and sophomore Madison White delivered the winning point from the No. 3 position with a 22-20, 21-14 victory over Christine Deroos and Savannah Standage. It was the fourth match for the double-Maddi pairing, which moved to 4-0 overall.

USC's first point of the dual came from court four where freshman Ashley Pater and graduate Grace Seits teamed up for the first time to get a 21-10, 21-16 win over Emily Sparks and Megan Widener. At the top court, All-American seniors Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple took down Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah, 21-17, 21-18, to improve to 26-3 on the season.

The score moved to 4-0 on a 29-27, 21-14 win by graduate twins Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse at the No. 2 position against Natalie Glenn and Julia Westby. It was the 113th career victory for the Nourses as a pair.

In the only match to go to three sets, freshman Madison Goellner and sophomore Mabyn Thomas paired at the No. 5 position to get a 21-18, 19-21, 15-3 win over Haley Carrington and Olivia Narancich to put the sweep into the books. The duo improved to 3-0 together.

The Trojans open day two at the Center of Effort Challenge with a 9 a.m. PT dual against No. 5 TCU (24-5) on Saturday (April 13). A win over the Horned Frogs puts USC into the championship final set for a 5:45 p.m. start.
