No. 4 USC Heads into Round Three One Stroke Off the Lead at the Pac-12 Preview
February 20, 2024 | Women's Golf
Stanford and UCLA are tied at the top at seven-under-par, as the Women of Troy sit one back at six-under-par
KAILUA KONA, Hawaii -Â No. 4 USC women's golf remains in the hunt for its third team title, as it sits in 3rd place with only one stroke separating it from the leader after the second round of the Pac-12 Preview at the Nanea Golf Club on the big island of Hawaii.Â
Â
The Women of Troy came into the day in a tie for the lead, and even after shooting four-over-par for the day, they remain one back of both UCLA and Stanford. USC is currently six-under-par as a squad and has three players in the tournament's top ten. Junior Amari Avery leads the Trojans, as she is sixth on the totem poll at four-under-par.Â
Â
Avery posted the best second round for USC as she was one-under-par (72) for the afternoon. The junior peaked on hole No. 6 as she secured an eagle on the par five to give her some leeway; she used it to counteract two of her bogies and used her other two birdies to fight off a bogey she had at hole No. 16.Â
Â
The other two Trojans in the top ten are freshman Bailey Shoemaker and senior Brianna Navarrosa. Shoemaker had a challenging day, as she posted a 76 after having the tournament low in the first round (67). Regardless, the freshman was solid for most of the day but faced two hiccups, as she posted a triple bogey on hole No. 2 (par four) and hole No. 15 (par four). On the flip side, Navarrosa had a pretty straightforward day, as she birdied No. 4 and bogeyed No. 6 before paring all the other holes.Â
Â
Sophomore Catherine Park and senior Christine Wang round out the Women of Troy, as they both are tied for 27th at four-over-par for the tournament. Park continued what she did yesterday, as she produced a 75 in both rounds one and two. Wang dropped further in round two, as she produced a 77 after being even in round one.Â
Â
The Trojans hope to make a run at their third team title this season as they finish out the Pac-12 Preview tomorrow at the Nanea Golf Club on the Big Island of Hawaii.Â
