USC’s Eddie Czaplicki Named Ray Guy Award Semifinalist
November 15, 2024 | Football
LOS ANGELES – USC punter Eddie Czaplicki has been named a Ray Guy Award Semifinalist, today (Nov. 15).
Czaplicki continues to be a game-changer for the Trojans. USC is No. 1 in the nation in net punting (45.57 yards), and Czaplicki ranks No. 3 in the nation with a 48.5-yard punting average among punters with a minimum of 25 attempts.
He has been named a Ray's 8 Award recipient three times this season.
Fifteen of Czaplicki's 29 punts have been over 50 yards (.517), including a season-long of 62 yards against Minnesota. He also recorded a career-high single game punting average of 53.1 yards against Michigan, and 15 of his punts have pinned opponents inside the 20. Czaplicki has been instrumental in flipping the field and giving the Trojan defense great field position all season long.
The candidates were evaluated by the Ray Guy Award committee on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis was placed on net punting average, percentage of punts downed or kicked out-of-bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
A national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) sports information directors, national media and previous Ray Guy Award winners will decide the three award finalists who will be announced on Tuesday, November 26. The voting body will then vote again to determine the winner of the Ray Guy Award. The winner will be announced live on Thursday, Dec. 12 during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
