Hansen helped lead the Trojans to their fourth straight NCAA championship in 2024
LEXINGTON, Ky. – USC beach volleyball assistant coach Emily Hansen was named a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 Award on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Â
The Thirty Under 30 honors program recognizes up-and-coming coaches in three different sectors of the sport—college, club, and beach—who serve in a range of roles, from head coach to volunteer assistant to club director. Each of this year's recipients had to be age 30 or under as of Dec. 31, 2023, to qualify for the award.
Â
The award is a first for Hansen and the first for a USC volleyball coach across each of the Trojans' three teams—men's indoor, women's indoor, and beach. Hansen played a key role in each of USC's last three national championships. She served as the team's assistant coach in each of the last two seasons (2023, '24) as the Women of Troy captured their third and fourth consecutive NCAA titles. In 2022, she played for the Trojans as a graduate transfer student-athlete when USC won their second of the four straight championships.
Â
Before USC, Hansen gained seven years of experience coaching high school and club volleyball at Garces Memorial High School and Bishop Montgomery High School, and with Bakersfield Volleyball Club and Surfside Volleyball Club.
Â
COLLEGE AWARDS
This year's list of Thirty Under 30 College Award recipients includes women's and men's coaches who are rising leaders in the sport. These honorees work hard and are passionate about teaching, helping players reach their full potential, and growing the game at the collegiate level.
Â
CLUB AWARDS
The Club awards are the latest addition to the AVCA's Thirty Under 30 honors program, as they made their debut last year. The 2024 recipients include rising club volleyball leaders that are passionate about ensuring that the club space continues to fuel growth in youth volleyball and help increase participation numbers.
Â
BEACH AWARDS
The AVCA Thirty Under 30 Beach Awards, now in their fourth year, shines the spotlight on the great work that the next generation of beach coaches are doing to help the ever-increasing number of high school beach players—both girls and boys. Eight Thirty Under 30 Beach honorees are repeat winners, recognizing their continued commitment to the sport.
Â
The Women of Troy won an unprecedented fourth straight NCAA championship in 2024 to up the program's total to seven all-time national titles. Top-ranked USC finished the season 37-5 overall and went 4-0 at the championship with an incredible 12-0 mark in individual court play. It was the 136th national title won by a USC team and the school's 113th NCAA team championship. USC became the first women's team in school history to win four consecutive national titles and brought home the 38th women's national championship; the 28th NCAA crown won by the Women of Troy.
