No. 21 USC Women’s Tennis Set For Home Opener Against LMU, UC Irvine

Trojans open dual action with doubleheader against LMU/UC Irvine on Thursday, Jan. 18.
LOS ANGELES - The No. 21 USC women's tennis team kicks off the 2024 dual match season with a doubleheader against Loyola Marymount and UC Irvine on Thursday, Jan. 18 at Marks Stadium. Matches are scheduled for 12 p.m. (LMU) and 4 p.m. (UC Irvine). On Sunday, the Trojans will welcome No. 6 Texas at 11 a.m. pending no inclement weather.
RANKINGS
The Women of Troy enter this week as the No. 21 ranked team in the country (ITA Coaches Poll, Jan. 17). USC boasts five Trojans in the national singles rankings with sophomore Emma Charney leading USC at No. 22 after going 13-5 in the fall. Trojan redshirt junior Snow Han locked in the No. 33 ranking, while senior Naomi Cheong secured the No. 42 rank. Junior Grace Piper checked in at No. 66 while USC fifth-year Eryn Cayetano sits at No. 83.
The Women of Troy also boast two ranked duo's in No. 10 Cayetano and Charney, and No. 29 Parker Fry and Grace Piper.
NEW ADDITIONS:
USC welcomed two mid-season additions with the arrival of freshman Immi Haddad (London, England) and Lily Fairclough (Perth, Western Australia).
Haddad has won two junior singles titles and captured five doubles titles, including one alongside Fairclough. The London native reached a career best ITF women's singles ranking of 806 on November 20, 2023. Her career best ITF Junior singles and doubles ranking is 107 (September 11, 2023). Haddad boasts a career junior's singles record of 76-55 and doubles record of 50-45.
Fairclough brings a slough of high-level tennis experience to Troy, boasting a career best ITF singles rankings of 265 and doubles ranking of 420. The freshman has also won 10 junior doubles titles (won the J100 Sousse Title with Haddad) and three women's doubles titles.
Both are sure to be instant impact additions for the Women of Troy in both singles and doubles.
LAST SEASON:
During the 2023 season, the Trojans recorded an overall record of 20-10, going 9-5 in conference play. The Women of Troy kicked off the season with a four-match win streak, and later in the season stormed to a historic second-place finish in the Pac-12 Championship Tournament. In the NCAA tournament, the Women of Troy defeated UNLV in their first-round match-up, before falling to No. 9 seed Pepperdine (host) in the second round. Freshman Maddy Sieg and senior Eryn Cayetano led the way for the Trojans throughout the season, with Sieg making a historic run at the NCAA Tournament as she reached the semifinals in both singles and doubles. As a duo, Sieg and Cayetano earned All-America honors as they reached the doubles semifinals and wrapped up the season as the No. 9 ranked duo in the country. Sieg finished the season ranked No. 5 in singles while Cayetano checked in at No. 43 and was named the ITA National and Southwest Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award recipient. The Trojans wrapped up the season as the No. 24 ranked team in the country, with two ranked singles players and three ranked doubles pairings. USC was named an ITA All-Academic Team in 2023 with five players earning the title of ITA Scholar-Athlete. Additionally, four Trojans were named to the Pac-12's Spring Academic Honor Roll.
SCOUTING LMU
Loyola Marymount is 0-0 on the season, playing their first dual match of the season against USC on Thursday, Jan. 18. The Lions do not have any ranked singles or doubles players. USC holds a 4-0 advantage over the unranked Lions.
SCOUTING UC IRVINE
Thursday marks the season opener for UC Irvine after playing three exhibition tournaments in the fall. No Anteaters are currented ranked in singles or doubles. Head Coach Elizabeth Ferris Smith returns 12 players from her 2022-23 roster.
