August 09, 2023 | Football
LOS ANGELES—USC running back Austin Jones was selected to the 2023 Doak Walker Award Watch List today (Aug. 9). The Doak Walker Award is annually presented to the nation's top college running back.
Jones will look to play a key role in the Trojan backfield as a redshirt senior running back in 2023. He made his mark in his first season with the Trojans as he contributed in all 14 games with 4 starts in 2022. He racked up 705 rushing yards on 135 attempts (5.2 avg) and scored 5 TDs. He also had 25 receptions for 267 receiving yards (10.7 avg) with a TD.
The award is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
The recipient of the 2023 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards.
